it sounds more like the democrats appropiate a movement once it gets steam and then slanders the repulicans until everyone believes that they are the ones that brought it forward.
once that happens the republicans start pushing back becuase the democrats just want to raise taxes to solve the problem while republicans were pushing a more nuanced approach. but people dont want to hear nuanced. they want simple and easy so they listen to the democrats.

Civil rights? JFK initially opposed it. robert byrd was kkk and a democrat. a majority of democrats opposed it and the democrats held the majority at the time. it wasn’t until JFK was assassinated that the majority of senate and house voted to pass it. 80% of republicans voted in favor of civil rights. 60% of democrats voted in favor of civil rights.
